Jean Prouvé (1901-1984) was a pioneer in 20th-century design and architecture. The son of a founding member of the École de Nancy and the godson of Émile Gallé, he was influenced by the idea of merging art and industry. Initially a blacksmith, he innovated with folded sheet metal and applied his construction principles to both furniture and buildings. His functional and minimalist approach aligned with the ideals of the Union des Artistes Modernes, alongside Le Corbusier and Charlotte Perriand.
Jean-Michel Basquiat (1960-1988), a New York artist of Haitian and Puerto Rican descent, started as a graffiti artist under the pseudonym “SAMO©.” Discovered in the 1980s, he moved in the circles of Andy Warhol, Keith Haring, and other contemporary artists. His work, influenced by urban culture and Gray’s Anatomy, gained rapid global recognition. He died of a drug overdose in 1988 at just 27.
Keith Haring (1958-1990), an American artist, became known for his graffiti drawings in the New York subway. His simple yet symbolic style made his work universally recognizable. A passionate activist against racism, drugs, and AIDS, he created the Keith Haring Foundation in 1987 after being diagnosed with the disease. He passed away in 1990, leaving behind a lasting artistic legacy.
